All students enrolled in the Graduate Academic Certificate program are required to come to campus for a one-time orientation and training with three primary purposes:  to meet the professors who teach the courses, to provide training in the use of the WebCT platform which is used for all of the courses, and to launch the student's first course(s).

Information about the Web Institute including campus map, venues, lodging information, etc., is located at:  http://www.unt.edu/slis/viatheweb/viaweb.htm.  The Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport is approximately 15 miles from Denton.

On-Campus Web Institute Training and Orientation

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22 ORIENTATION SCHEDULE -- For Scholarship Cohort and All New Graduate Academic Certificate Students
Daytime arrival Arrive in Denton and settle into hotel.

Visit Campus Parking located at the Public Safety/UNT Police Building to obtain a parking permit to avoid receiving tickets.

On your own if you have time:  Come to SLIS to say hello, visit the UNT Bookstore, visit the UNT Library for library cards and a TexShare card if Texas resident.
6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Pre-Institute Informal Dutch-Treat Dinner
Time: approximately 6:00 p.m. to allow people traveling to Denton to attend.
Location: Pancho's Mexican Buffet on Avenue C (off of I-35) in the large shopping center.  The dean and other faculty will be present as well as and other Web Institute students to attend the dinner.  If you do not want to eat, come for a soda and visit with us!

Student Panel on "Strategies for Success in the Graduate Academic Certificate Program."  Question and answer period.
Photos.  Certificate course planning, advising protocols, etc.  Distribution of baseline data document.

Morning Breakfast on your own.

Gateway Center Computing Lab, Second Floor.

10:30 a.m. 11:45 p.m. Environmental Education, Sciences and Technology Building (EESAT)  Room 130
Join the SLIS 5000 Orientation for LISSA Student Organization Presentation.  Faculty introductions.  Induction Ceremony.
11:45 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Lunch Provided by SLIS.
1:00 p.m. 1:45 p.m. Eagle Student Services Center for Student Identification Cards.
Bookstore time, if needed.
2:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m. UNT Gateway Center  Room 142 and Gateway Lab is Room 141.
Lab time to continue WebCT training, student tutorial, and access to courses.
4:00 p.m. Questions and departure to parking lots.
