The official website of Poetry Slam Incorporated can be found at http://www.poetryslam.com/. It is listed on the class website page under Poetry resources. It is an extremely informative, easy to read and navigate site with information clearly posted. The site gives the history of Poetry Slam from its conception by Marc Smith in 1984, through the incorporation and non-profit status of the organization 1996-97 through to current activities by members.

The mission of the group and its goals are clearly stated in understandable terms. The site itself is colorful, yet professional. There is no external advertising. Navigation buttons are well placed with links to information pages not only within the site, but other related areas as well. Those wishing to can also become members of Poetry Slam, Inc. at the website.

Of particular interest is the page dedicated to local area slams. The reader can find where Poetry Slams are occuring throughout the nation and locations within his/her local area complete with days, times, addresses, and phone listings.

A few of the more interesting links like the multimedia and poet galleries are still under construction. The store link offers books and videos, t-shirt, mugs, etc. for purchase to those enthusiasts who would like to find out more or have a passion for poetry.

Although the webmaster has an email link for further information. The site lists its copyright as 2001 with no updatings listed.

I found the site answered many of my questions, showed the popularity of poetry as performance art, and gave needed information to go out and explore this creative new venue.
