Wacky Web Tales
Reviewed By: Debie Hamer
This is a very unusual storytelling web site. This web site is designed for children and allows them to make up their own story. The site is similar to a Mad Lib. It has templates where the user fills in words based on their parts of speech. Then the site takes the list of words input by the user and turns them into a story. It would be a fun and entertaining way to get students to write and to practice the parts of speech. The author of this site is the Houghton Mifflin Company, a popular school textbook company. There is not any information about the company on the site. There is a link to contact the company. There is not any advertising associated with the site. There does not seem to be any bias on the part of the author of this site. The page is copyrighted from 1996 – 2002 but there is not a date last updated or a date created. There are no links from this site to other sites. The site is however, current, because I checked the site shortly before Valentine’s Day and the stories on the site mostly dealt with love and Valentine’s Day. The site states that the stories are for third grade and up. The site had a help feature for children that need help with the parts of speech. It also has story templates created by other children.
