Articles about Storytelling Marni Gillard, storyteller Marni Gillard is a former teacher and now a professional storyteller. The site provides a biography of the author, including her professional affiliations, as well as a listing of her prior seminars and storytelling performances. Ms. Gillard has authored books, audiotapes, and articles regarding storytelling. She provides her name, address, telephone number and email address to allow for easy contact. This site provides access to some of the author’s writings about storytelling. This includes an evaluation form, as well as articles about building community through storytelling, ideas for storytelling, teaching storytelling through keeping a storytelling learning log, and tips for learning how to tell tales. She also includes a bibliography of her favorite articles regarding story telling. Finally, a list of “why storytelling” statements could be valuable for those challenged about their use of storytelling in the classroom. Technically this website works well. It is simply designed, easy to use and very well organized. The pages flow easily from one to another and links provide the ability to move to any place in the site with one click. The colors are soothing and the text is easy to read. However, this site provides very little content of value for the storytelling student. Other than the articles mentioned above, the site is mainly a sales tool for the author. Even the links page has not been completed. The website is dormant – nothing new has been added since 1999. Although this is worth a quick read-through, it would not be something to use as an ongoing resource, unless you were interested in utilizing Ms Gillard’s services.
