Why Have Storytelling in Schools
http://www.creativekeys.net/StorytellingPower/editor.html
This is a site that is edited by Chris King, Storytell and Editor of Storytelling Power. She has had a many faceted career from being the mother of five, artist, storyteller, web site designer and developer, marketing manager, waitress, and writer. Chris is a member of and the Ohio State Liasison for the National Storytelling Network. There is a free newsletter that can be received, as well. One of the links was written by Harlynne Geisler, a storyteller/consultant to the gifted program of the San Diego City School. She lists six reasons that it is important. These reasons helped inspire me to want to do a better job at telling stories within my classroom. (One reason that she suggested quoted Bettelheim, a name familiar to us from this module.) Part of the quote is that "oral storytelling . . . has a healing power in an unloving world." She concludes her atricle by stating that "storytelling is just plain fun!" There are e-mail addresses available. While there is helpful information at this URL, it still seems to be more of a commercial web site. Adds for books by the editor and others line the sides of the pages. It is highly possible that the content of this site is slanted towards selling rather than informing.
