Tell Me Your Stories
Reviewed by Linda McMillan
This site is a wonderful resource for Middle and High School teachers who
want to introduce their students to the joy of oral history. It contains
curriculum, handouts, questionnaires and samples of oral history projects. All
of this is free and the handouts can be downloaded in Word format. There is a
video to accompany the curriculum which costs $15. Ordering instructions are
available.
The FAQ section offers instructors detailed assistance on how to get students
excited about this project and to help students realize how important our
elderly are to our history.
The site is maintained by the Living Legacies Historical Foundation. The
organization’s goal is to increase interaction between young people and our
elderly. Young people can learn history from the people who lived it.
There are various links to other oral history projects including: Baylor
University, Library of Congress Learning Page, University of California and
several universities in the United Kingdom.
Tellmeyourstories features a very pleasing layout and includes wonderful photos
and quotes from students who have completed the project. It is easy to navigate
and follows a logical progression. The site has a copyright of 2002.
