I will be on faculty development leave during the fall 2008 semester and will not be teaching during that time. The Beginning/Class Composition courses will be taught by an adjunct faculty member during the entire 2008-09 academic year so that I may teach the Music of Frank Zappa course in the spring of 2009. I will resume teaching Beginning/Class Composition in the fall 2009 semester.

Beginning Composition I-II (MUCP 1180-90) and Class Composition I-II (MUCP 3080-90) are offered each fall and spring semesters, MWF 11:00-11:50 pm. MUCP 1180 and 1190 are required for all composition majors; MUCP 3080 (which meets concurrently with MUCP 1180) is required of theory and jazz arranging majors. The Music of Frank Zappa (MUGC 4890/5890) has been offered in the summer sessions annually since 2001; however, this course has been discontinued as a summer offering as of 2007. The final offering of this course for the foreseeable future will be in the spring of 2009; for further details, please consult the spring 2009 schedule of classes when it becomes available. This course may be used to fulfill an MUCP elective requirement for undergraduate composition majors, as well as upper division elective credits for other undergraduate majors (including BA students). Graduate students should consult their area advisors to determine how this course may be applied to specific degree plans. Further information may be found on the main page for this course.

Composition Lessons — Due to administrative obligations, it is necessary for me to restrict my private composition instruction to doctoral students (MUCP 6190, MUGC 6950), direction of master's theses (MUGC 5950), and students preparing senior recitals (MUCP 4190). Interested students are advised to contact me as early as possible to request a studio space. Please consult the Composition Student Handbook for detailed information regarding composition lessons, including expectations and grading criteria.
